Local Marketplace App: NeiMart

This project focuses on improving the experience of buying and selling items locally. In collaboration with my partner Issac Alzaga, we researched apps like OfferUp and spoke with users to better understand their experiences. We found that trust, communication, and cluttered listings were some of the biggest challenges users face. Using these insights, we developed a concept that aims to make local transactions more reliable, clear, and straightforward.

Phase 1: MARKET RESEARCH

Phase 2: USER RESEARCH & NAPKIN SKETCHES

  • Users felt overwhelmed by cluttered listings and excessive recommendations

  • Common frustrations included unreliable sellers, outdated listings, and inconsistent search results

  • Interviews highlighted the need for more clarity, trust, and relevance

  • Target audience: budget-conscious users shopping for local second-hand items

  • Goal: create a faster, clearer, and more trustworthy marketplace experience

  • Collaborated with Issac to build the foundation of the app through research and planning

  • Developed user personas to better understand buyer and seller behaviors, motivations, and pain points

  • Created user flows to map out navigation and overall app experience

  • Designed low-fidelity wireframes focused on layout, structure, and functionality

  • Established a clear user-centered direction for the project moving forward

Phase 3: USER RESEARCH & NAPKIN SKETCHES

  • Conducted usability testing to evaluate the app’s core user flows

  • Created a structured test plan and observed users completing key tasks within the app

  • Identified issues with the deposit system, unclear feedback, and unresponsive UI elements

  • Improved offer tracking, clarified the deposit flow, and refined interactive elements based on user feedback

  • Updated wireframes to better match user expectations and create a smoother experience

Phase 4: Moodboard & Design system

  • Created a moodboard to establish the app’s visual direction through color, typography, and overall aesthetic

  • Focused on a clean, modern, and community-friendly design style

  • Developed a design system with a consistent color palette, typography hierarchy, and reusable UI components

  • Explored both light and dark modes to improve flexibility and accessibility

  • Built high-fidelity interactive prototypes in Figma based on earlier wireframes

  • Refined user flows and improved usability to create a more cohesive user experience
